Nerja, Costa del Sol

Nerja is the crown jewel of the Axarquía coast, anchored by the famous Balcón de Europa — a clifftop promenade with panoramic views of the Mediterranean that has drawn visitors since the 19th century. The town combines a well-preserved historic centre with a string of sheltered cove beaches carved into dramatic limestone cliffs, making it one of the most photographed destinations on the Costa del Sol.

The Nerja Caves (Cueva de Nerja), discovered in 1959, are home to some of the world's largest stalactite formations and host an acclaimed annual music festival inside the caverns. This cultural and natural heritage, combined with excellent restaurants and a thriving international community, gives Nerja a character that larger resort towns rarely achieve.

Nerja has one of the most established expat communities on the eastern Costa del Sol, with English, German, and Scandinavian residents who have chosen to make it a permanent home. Property here holds its value well — demand consistently outpaces new supply, and the town's strict planning rules protect the low-rise, village-scale character that buyers pay a premium for.
