Competa, Costa del Sol

Cómpeta is the Axarquía's premier mountain village, perched at 640 metres on the southern slopes of the Sierra de Almijara-Alhama Natural Park. The village is the cultural and commercial centre of the mountain comarca, with a well-preserved historic centre of whitewashed houses clustered around a 16th-century Mudéjar church and a main square that hosts one of the region's most celebrated wine festivals each August.

The surrounding landscape is spectacular and varied — vineyards terraced into the hillsides, almond and olive groves, and access to over 200km of marked hiking trails into the Natural Park.
